South Korea's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced that it would invest 1.6 trillion won (appox. $1.5 billion) to develop a 5G network. The technology will be about 1,000 times faster than 4G LTE and offer enough bandwidth to enable users to download 800MB files in a second.
The ministry hopes to roll out the service by 2017 and make it commerical by 2020. It expects sales of upto 331 trillion won (appox. $310 billion) from 2020 to 2026.
In addition to developing the network, the minsitry will focus on introducing new features that will utilize the crazy speeds available, such as Ultra-HD streaming, hologram transmission and upgraded social networking services.
Who wants to bet YouTube will still buffer even on the 5G network?
