LAHORE: To provide greater momentum to the two countries’ plan of a deeper bilateral economic relationship, the second edition of the “India Show” is being organised in Lahore from February 14-16.
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in collaboration with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and Trade Development Authority (TDA), will be organising the three-day event that is meant to help the region realise its potential in terms of trade and development.
“Regional trade is hostage to India and Pakistan tension,” said South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Chamber of Commerce President Vikramjit Singh Sahney at a press conference in Lahore. “This should now be cleared for better trade ties — not just between India and Pakistan but also for the Saarc region.”
A delegation, led by the India’s commerce minister and comprising 250 eminent businessmen and industry leaders, will be participating in the “India Show”.
The delegation is a step towards ensuring continuous and increasing engagement between the business communities of both countries. It is also an affirmation of FICCI’s belief that increased trade and investment will go a long way in improving the relationship between India and Pakistan besides achieving common goals of inclusive growth.
Trade between the two nations has already accelerated with the formal exchange of goods increasing from $250 million in 2003 to $2.4 billion in 2013, showing an annual growth rate of 25% in the last 10 years. Experts quote the potential of trade between the two nations to be 10 times higher than the current value.
The event, while aiming to showcase the best of India in the 21st century, is also a conscious effort to build on the success of the first show held two years ago.
This time, the event is to set new benchmarks of success guided by the theme of building partnerships through economic engagement. To serve this purpose, a strong presence of the Indian industry has been ensured with more than 90 Indian companies representing sectors as diverse as textiles, transport, agriculture and allied services, healthcare, gems and jewellery, readymade garments, steel industry, warehousing, handlooms, construction equipments, jute products, wedding concepts, industrial paints and consumer durables.
Meanwhile, LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari announced holding a ‘Made in Pakistan’ show in New Delhi. He said that it was time to take practical steps to tap potential in the region. He said that the LCCI would extend every possible help for the success of the “India Show”.
