Value-addition: Nestlé, LUMS unveil agribusiness programme

LAHORE: Realising the potential in the agribusiness sector, the Suleman Dawood School of Business o f Lahore University of management Sciences (LUMS) and Nestle Pakistan have joined hands to initiate an Executive Certificate programme from 17th January 2014.
The programme is aimed at training professionals working in the sector, willing to learn more from entrepreneurs, company heads and experts.
The Executive Certificate in Agribusiness Management (ECAM) is built around a series of short duration modules covering key disciplines of management with contextual relevance for agribusiness and the challenges currently facing the sector.
“As a predominantly agricultural country, Pakistan needs to develop a class of professionals educated and trained in the relevant disciplines,” said Nestlé Pakistan’s Managing Director Magdi Batato, while speaking at the occasion. “The ECAM gives them the opportunity to do so.”
Meanwhile, Dr Sohail Naqvi, LUMS vice-chancellor, said the programme was designed to be a ‘well-rounded one’.  “Our focus has been to design a programme directed at developing managerial expertise in the agriculture sector to enhance land productivity,” said Naqvi. “It will address a wide spectrum of challenges on input, production, processing/manufacturing and marketing and distribution with relevance to the economic and political environment in South Asia.”
