Cristiano Ronaldo has again won the Di Stéfano Trophy for the best Spanish league player, awarded by MARCA for the 2012-13 season. The Portuguese player also won the trophy last year ahead of Leo Messi, winner of the previous three. CR7, with 32 points, surpassed the 'Azulgrana' by 6 (26).
Andrés Iniesta came third with 11 points, the top 3 remaining as it was last year. Falcao (three points), Valdés, Di María (two) and Diego Costa (one) completed the line-up.
All players in the elite division are eligible for the award. The voting period begins with the Spanish Super Cup and closes with the last national team match and all the competitive competitions of the season are included.
The finalists are those most voted for by MARCA readers who are then ranked by the judging panel. In the event of a tie, the final decision rests with Alfredo Di Stéfano, president of the judging panel.
The award was created in the 2007-08 season and the first trophy went to Raúl González, who collected it from Di Stéfano, from whom the award gets its name, on the pitch at the Bernabéu prior to a Real Madrid-Numancia game. Leo Messi received the trophy the following three years, utterly dominant with three straight La Liga titles, while Ronaldo has been honoured for the last two campaigns.
