Producing films was a bad experience: Jimmy Shergill

MUMBAI:
Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill, who tried his hand at producing Punjabi films, says the experience wasn’t fruitful.
Jimmy  first produced Dharti in 2011; however, it failed at the box office. He then producedRangeelay in 2013 in association with Eros International. The film was directed by Navaniat Singh, and featured Jimmy himself and Neha Dhupia in the lead roles. It marks Neha Dhupia’s debut in Punjabi cinema. The film opened to average opening in India and poor opening overseas and was a critical failure.
“I had a very bad experience producing films,” said Jimmy, adding that he strove for his level of perfection in his projects and this resulted in a financial debacle.
“Just to take films to my own level, I have paid from my own pocket. I took steps which were rash. If the makers told me this is required for the film, I used to say go ahead with it, but the money never came back,” added the actor.
He learnt his lesson the hard way. “Your personal work should be different from production work and it should survive on its own. That is something I failed in. I messed up as a producer,” he said.
He may not have succeeded as a producer, but he knows his craft as an actor. Be it Maachisor Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, Jimmy is known for giving his best in front of the camera and proving his mettle.
Meanwhile his Fugly is set to hit the screens June 13, and the actor, who took a break from work, said: “I am enjoying my phase as an actor. I was missing in action for a year and a half. I had a spine problem and I missed out on quite a lot, so I am hoping to cover from it now. This is the best phase for someone to be in the industry.

Did you know?: Brooklyn Beckham gets his first job

“Brooklyn has got the world at his fingertips and could have a life of luxury if he wanted — but the lad is not that way inclined,” said a source.
Brooklyn Beckham, David and Victoria Beckham’s 15-year-old son, has got a weekend job in a coffee shop. Brooklyn is their oldest son and he is working as a barista because his multi-millionaire parents want him to learn the value of money and not take it for granted.
He is probably working for the minimum wage of between £2.68 and £3.50-per-hour, reported parentdish.co.uk. Reportedly, Brooklyn he has already done several shifts serving coffee in London.
“Brooklyn has got the world at his fingertips and could have a life of luxury if he wanted — but the lad is not that way inclined,” said a source.
“Brooklyn and his three siblings have all had a great start in life  — much better than most. But David and Victoria want them to know what hard work is like. They’re chuffed they’re back in London too, as American children are more spoilt and that’s not what they want to instill in their own kids,” added the source. “Brooklyn wants to make his own money and be his own man. His mum and dad are delighted and it’s a testament to their parenting skills. Instilling a solid work ethic early will be good for him.”

LOS ANGELES: Actress Angelina Jolie says having a double mastectomy last year was “the right choice” for her family. She also wants to tell her story to inspire women across the globe.
The “Maleficent” actress underwent the preventative procedure in February 2013 after being told she had high chance of getting breast cancer, and she spoke out about her decision to help other women in similar positions, reports contactmusic.com.
“I didn’t know how it would be received. But I felt that the important thing was that I wanted to speak to other women.
“I wanted to speak to other daughters of women like my mother (who died from ovarian cancer in 2007). I wanted other women to be aware of something that they could take on and protect themselves from,” she said.
“I felt that I’d learnt something about my health, and I felt I’d made the right choice for my family and I simply wanted other women to know that there was that choice,” she added.
Jolie will undergo further surgery because she is genetically at risk of suffering from ovarian cancer, and she has been inspired by the support from women all over the world.
“It has been lovely and very moving; I’ve had so much support and kindness … I’ll get advice from all the wonderful people I’ve been talking to, to get through the next stage,” she said

Hollywood’s power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who got engaged two years ago are letting their six kids, Maddox, 12, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, seven, and twins Knox and Vivienne, five, give their suggestions for the big day. Angelina admits that her little ones want an unconventional celebration.
‘’We are discussing it with the children and how they imagine it might be. Which is verging on hysterical, how kids envision a wedding. It’s going to be Disney or paintball — one or the other,” said Angelina.
Angelina’s son Knox designed her a ring depicting her latest character  — evil witchMaleficent  — for Mother’s Day. The six-year-old drew a picture of his mother in her role as evil queen Maleficent from her latest movie, which was then made into a gold band as a gift for her to celebrate the day on May 11.
Referring to her fiancĂ© and actor Brad Pitt, Jolie said: “Brad’s really creative with the kids, so they made a bunch of things like pillows and notebooks. Knoxy made me a picture ofMaleficent that they made into a ring.”
“Vivienne, Knox’s twin sister, made me stationery and pillows for my office,” added the actor, reported IANS.
Of her 10-year-old, she said: “I loved (Disney character) Goofy when I was little. So Pax drew me a Goofy shirt. I wore that with a crown Vivienne found for me.”
Raising children together has evolved Brad and Angelina’s nine-year-old relationship. ‘’You’re not lovers or boyfriend and girlfriend as much as you are a family,” said Angelina to People’smagazine.
Angelina underwent a double mastectomy last year after learning she carries the BRCA1 gene, which means she has a high chance of getting breast cancer. She said she is happy about the choices she made and having the procedure makes her feel ‘’more connected’’ to other women, reported Time of India

Farewell to Christina Yang

After 10 years of playing the character Christina Yang, Sandra Oh leaves Grey’s Anatomy. PHOTO: FILE
Grey’s Anatomy fans were ready to cry their eyes out during Thursday’s season finale, Farewell to Cristina. In the final scene, we see Cristina (Sandra Oh), smiling, in her office in Switzerland, where the door reads Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery and we hear her say, “Sometimes the future changes quickly and completely”.
And we’re left only with the choice of what to do next. We can choose to be afraid of it, to stand there trembling, not moving, assuming the worst that can happen. Or we step forward into the unknown and assume it will be brilliant.”
Oh opens up in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter about how Cristina’s story concluded and her emotional farewells.
What was your last day on set like?
I was completely in tears — but not broken. It was not a place of being sad. It was a place of being tremendously moved. I do want to try to be specific about the quality of the emotions because many people can be sad — and it is sad — but I was extremely moved.
Do you think it was it fitting that Cristina replaced Burke at his own facility?
Yes. I felt like you could show the most amount of growth by seeing her come face-to-face with one of the most influential beings in her life. It’s almost like you need a big, strong force like Burke to help her get out. What Burke offers her is so tremendous that she’s willing to change her life for it, to leave her family — Meredith (Ellen) and Owen (Kevin).
Was the final scene as hard as you expected?
My very final moment of shooting was with Kevin, and it was the final moment where Cristina says goodbye to Owen. It was a beautiful image of Cristina in the gallery, behind glass and tapping on the OR theatre below. Symbolically, with that distance, it cinematically tells the story of where they are and also puts a distance that they don’t want between them. It felt right because it was tough shooting that.
What was your final scene with Ellen like?
It was deeply emotional. It was the last scene that Ellen and I shot. I remember feeling for our chests embracing. I was holding her and it felt like we were one body.
Did you already speak with Shonda about potentially coming back for the eventual series finale?
I told her, “If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I’d be more than happy to come back.  And if it doesn’t fit in that way, I totally understand. I just want you to know that I’m available.”
Have there been moments this season where you second-guessed your decision to leave?
Yes and no. I would definitely get flashes of fear, but I know that that’s my fear talking. I’ve been given such a bountiful gift of the past 10 years and, at this point in my life, I choose not to live my life from fear.
What will you do next?
I’m going do plays [Death and the Maiden] and after that, I don’t know. I want to be as open as possible to anything that comes.

Beyonce breaks silence on Jay Z, Solange’s fight

Singer Beyonce Knowles has broken her silence about the recent “unfortunate incident” between her sister Solange and her husband Jay Z, saying the duo has apologised to each other, and moved ahead as a “united family”.
An altercation between Solange and Jay Z took place after the Met Gala earlier this month. A leaked video revealed Solange attacking Jay Z in a lift.  According to rumours, the fight between the two took place because Solange was fed up of Jay Z’s relationship with his close friend, Rachel Roy. “Solange was defending BeyoncĂ© in the elevator because Solange finds Jay’s friendship with Rachel to be way too close for comfort and it makes her very uncomfortable,” revealed a source, reported Hollywood Life.
However, the family recently released an official statement regarding the incident.
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it,” clarified Beyonce, reportedIANS.
“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family,” she added.
Beyonce says that her sister was not acting irrationally throughout the evening. “The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same,” concluded the singer.
Following the incident, the sisters were photographed leaving together while Jay Z left in a separate car.

Connecticut dropout made bomb threats to hide status from family

MILFORD: A Connecticut college dropout was arrested Sunday night after admitting to calling in two bomb threats to keep her family from learning she had quit Quinnipiac University, police said on Monday.
Danielle Shea, 22, of Quincy, Massachusetts, made the threats after arriving at the graduation ceremony in a cap and gown with her mother, who did not know she had dropped out. She “panicked” when relatives noticed her name was not on the list of graduates, police said.
Shea called in two bomb threats to the Quinnipiac University library so the graduation ceremony would be canceled, police said. Instead the Sunday evening ceremony was delayed 90 minutes and moved a mile to a different campus of the university in the town of Hamden.
Local police went to the library as an estimated 5,000 people, including the 388 graduates, evacuated the area and quickly moved to the indoor location, according to John Morgan, university spokesman.
“We cannot speculate what she was thinking,” said Morgan. “But we had to act quickly in the interest of safety.”
Police said a female caller contacted school security twice on Sunday, first saying, “Bomb in the library,” and calling back 20 minutes later to say, “Several bombs are on campus. You haven’t cleared out graduation. That’s not a good idea.”
No explosive devices were found on the campus, said police, who they tracked the caller down by tracing the phone number she called from.
Shea was charged with threatening in the first degree and falsely reporting an incident. She was detained at police headquarters on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on May 30.
Shea could not be reached for immediate comment.
