LOS ANGELES: From strappy heels to blazers, you can now take any fashion item from day to night.
People.com shares tips on how to transform your daywear into evening outfit:
White button-down shirt: The quintessential 9-to-5 shirt can extend its working hours by getting tucked into a formal skirt and worn with the sleeves unrolled and buttoned at the wrist. Actress Jessica Alba also wore it with a sequin maxi.
Moto jacket: Leather jackets look perfect with a pair of jeans or skirts. But one of the best ways to wear it is with a gown.
Strappy jewel-encrusted sandals: Many women like to slip their feet into such sandals for someone’s wedding or festival. You can also wear them with casual yet polished outfit when the sun is up.
Structured blazer: Whether you wear it with pants or a silk dress, see how you wear it. You can style it as a cape when you choose to wear a dress with it

Actor Veena Malik was officially married to Dubai-based businessman Asad Basheer Khan Khattak today.
The nikkah ceremony was held in Dubai, her International Press Relations Manager Sohail Rashid confirmed. He added that the couple rushed the nikkah as Veena’s mother is unwell.
The actor tweeted an image of the wedding bands shortly after the engagement.

Lollywood star Meera congratulated Veena on her wedding.
Veena had earlier said she intended to get married in 2015.
“I believe in the institution of marriage. Also, I have seen my family members enjoying a blissful married life. I too would love to belong to the man forever after getting married,” she had stated.
Veena, who was rumoured to have been engaged earlier in the year and had a very public relationship with fellow Big Boss participant Ashmit Patel, had said that she has had her share of breakups and has insecure feelings.
“I have had my share of break ups. It would not be too much to say that I have always ditched men. I am the one who has broken up with all my boy friends.”
Asked about when does the 29 year-old actor plans to settle down, she pointed out 2015 as the potential year when she ties the knot.
“I am keeping my fingers crossed and am all set to tie the knot sometime in 2015. Will it be a Sheikh or someone from Dubai? Well, I am not sure myself but yes I am contemplating to get married to a Muslim. I have been living in Dubai for many years now. So could be someone from Dubai,” she had said.
Veena had earlier said in an interview that she did not believe in dating. “I’ve never believed in the concept of dating.”

Did you know? Deepika keen to work with Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan

We personally can’t wait to see her paired up with Aamir Khan! Who do you want to see her with?
Even with her kitty full with upcoming films like Happy New YearFinding Fanny Fernandes and Imtiaz Ali’s untitled venture, Deepika Padukone has a thirst for more.
The popular actor, who has already worked with Akshay Kumar, Shahrukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, has a long bucket list with names she wants to cross off.
“Every year, I am asked this question: which Bollywood actor I would like to work with now. I hope in the next one or two years, I will get to work with Hrithik, Salman and Aamir,” said  Deepika, who has starred in four back-to-back Box Office hits in 2012, at her celebration party.
There are rumours that Deepika has been roped in opposite Salman Khan in Sooraj Barjatya’s next venture, but the actor denied it, saying, “That’s not true and I have not officially met Sooraj ji.” Deepika had received an acting offer from Salman during her modelling days, before she was chosen for the Shahrukh-starrer Om Shanti Om. However, the actress denied Salman’s offer as she felt she was not ready to face the camera.

Élan’s Sultanate bridal collection unveiled at Labels

The label has come a long way and Shah is pleased with the response received in Karachi. PHOTOS: PUBLICITY
KARACHI:
Friday evening at Labels saw the launch of Élan’s latest collection. The owner of the multi-brand store Zahir Rahimtoola said on the occasion, “Almost four years ago, the day we launched Sania Maskatiya’s Chamaak collection in our store, we also launched Khadijah Shah’s Élan, and I must say, both designers have grown over the years.”
About Shah, he says, “She is really the mascot of Labels, she is part of everything we do. Also as a retailer, I have seen her inventory and I’ve seen her at a consistent level as a designer.”

On this particular evening, Shah brought forward a line that consisted of a bridal collection called Sultanate and her luxury prêt collection, which consisted of 45 outfits. By evening, only 10 of these remained.
Speaking to Shah, one gets to know that she holds a degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and used to tag along with her mother Anila Shah, who had her own stitching business. Shah once made something for her mother’s avid clients. She recalls, “People liked it so much that they started placing orders, and from then onwards, there was no looking back — it all caught up from there. It grew and today, you can see where the label is.”
“Talent is inborn, there is no doubt about that, but it is essential to get to know the technical skills, so I went up to Central St Martins for a few courses to get better accustomed with the technique of it all,” Shah says. Her outfits are exceedingly expensive. “I won’t say we are not expensive, yes we are, but we need to balance it out by giving quality stuff. I don’t compromise on quality.  These are real pearls and Swarovski crystals, which you see on the fabric. I do try to cater to all price points when I customise an outfit for someone.”
In her Sultanate bridal collection, there was surprisingly not a trace of traditional red. Rather, the collection comprised light beige and grey hues. The subtle colours are a break from both norm and tradition, says Shah.  “Personally, I gravitate towards a colour palette that is ethereal; the light feel you get from this combination is nowhere else to be found.” Taking her cues from international designers like Elie Saab and Vera Wang, she says, “I try to venture into colours sometimes, for my customised outfits, but not for my capsule collections.”

About her luxury prêt, Shah says, “These are not overly complicated silhouettes. It is an elegant and subtle line. It is straight, understated and there are elements that cater to a market consisting of anyone between the ages of 30 and 50 years. One should feel comfortable wearing it, it shouldn’t be overly edgy. Elegance suits everyone.”
Shah says, “While I was coming to Karachi, I thought my bridals wouldn’t sell, but I still wanted Karachiities to at least view these. However, I was utterly wrong. People have ended up placing orders here. That’s great.”
Shah is now in the process of opening her first flagship store in Lahore Galleria, which is still under construction. So why did it take so long for her to do so? “It takes a while to open your own store. Today, we are at a level where we can. It should be open by February or March 2014. After that, we will see if we want to start off with another [store] in Karachi.”
Bridal collection ranges between Rs200,000 and Rs1.2 million. Luxury prêt ranges between Rs25,000 and Rs45,000.

Del Bosque voted Xavi Iniesta and Ribéry for the Ballon d'Or"

Del Bosque: I voted for Xavi, Iniesta and Ribéry for the Ballon d'Or
12/24/2013
Vicente del Bosque, who celebrated his 63rd birthday on Monday, has revealed that he voted for Franck Ribéry for the Ballon d'Or, as well as for Spanish duo Xavi and Iniesta.
"I followed my conscience. I didn't want to get dragged into a battle or a war. I don't think it's a big deal", the Spain boss told Radio MARCA.
"I voted for Xavi and Iniesta. With them on the list, I couldn't not vote for them. My third pick was Ribéry, for a logical reason: he's won more than anyone else in Europe. He lifted the German league, the cup and the Champions League and helped France qualify for the World Cup. He's a worthy representative of Bayern Munich", explained the former Real Madrid coach.

Dwarves defeat news anchors: The Hobbit races on

LOS ANGELES: Elves, dwarves and hobbits of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaugproved too much for the much-publicised sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, as the hit fantasy film topped movie charts in the United States and Canada for a second straight week, earning $31.5 million over the weekend.
Kicking off Hollywood’s year-end push of high-profile movie releases, the Anchorman crew led by Will Ferrell was unable to dethrone last week’s winner and took in $26.8 million for the no. 2 spot, according to sales estimates from Rentrak.
Box office forecasters predicted Anchorman 2 would bring in $35 million to $40 million from Friday through Sunday. The movie cost $50 million to make.
“Forty million over five days is a sensational start,” said Don Harris, president of domestic theatrical distribution for Paramount Pictures, the Viacom Inc unit that released the film, adding that was in line with studio expectations.

The performance of Anchorman and other holiday releases will decide if Hollywood reaches a ticket sales record this year. Through Sunday, total grosses for 2013 have risen 0.8 per cent from a year earlier to nearly $10.37 billion, according to Rentrak. The record for total box office sales was $10.77 billion, set in 2012.
On Christmas Day on Wednesday, studios released five films, including Leonardo DiCaprio drama The Wolf of Wall Street and Ben Stiller comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
This weekend, the 3D Hobbit sequel brought its worldwide total to $404 million, distributor Warner Bros said. The second installment follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins and a band of dwarves on a quest that leads to a clash with dragon Smaug.
The no. 9 spot was grabbed by a surprisingly strong start from Indian film Dhoom 3, which opened in only 236 locations and took in $3.3 million to become the biggest US opening of a Bollywood film to date.

MUMBAI: High on the success of his debut television venture 24, a political thriller that ended last weekend, producer and lead actor Anil Kapoor says they will embark on the second season from January next year. He promises that the next season will be even better than this year’s.
Looking back on 24, Kapoor said: “When my team and I got down to making 24, we never thought it’d have this kind of an impact. But it changed television-viewing habits. People who never watched television were hooked. Now we’re going to start preparation for season 2 of 24from January. Hopefully it’d be even better than season 1!”
Kapoor took the plunge into television after more than three decades in filmdom and reaped rich dividends. From 24, Kapoor flew straight to Dubai for his next feature film Welcome Back.
He recounts how, on Saturday, the day the last episode of 24 was aired, he was badgered in Dubai by the entire team of Anees Bazmee’s Welcome Back to know who the real villain of the show is.
“Dimple was after me. She kept insisting, tell, tell, tell who the villain is. I told her to watch it at night. There was no way I was going to give out the end before the last episode aired. Suppose someone had tweeted?” said Kapoor.
With over a hundred Hindi films to his credit and his stint in the international arena with the meaty role in Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire, cameos in Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol and American TV series 24, Kapoor has come a long way.
Looking back fondly on his life, he said: “I’m thankful to the film industry and to my fans for having me around for 30 years. Time has just flown by. Today, I feel I am just starting out
