Top 25 Black Friday tech deals 2013

There are many Black Friday deals but only a few worth paying attention to.
(Credit: James Martin/CNET)
Every year the Black Friday online circulars hit the Web and lots of sites round up every tech deal under the sun. That's great, but it's always hard to tell the real deals from all the crap that's being advertised to lure you into the stores. The truth is that a lot of the so-called superbargains are already available online from stores like Amazon and others.
However, a few items do stand out. Alas, many of these are "doorbusters" that are available in very limited quantities, and only the people who arrive long before the doors open get a chance to buy them. But at least they really are deals, and some of them are actually worth getting excited about

A crane collapsed at the ground which will host the tournament's first game, with the number of casualties still unknown
Two people have died after a crane collapsed during construction of World Cup 2014 stadium Corinthians Arena.

The incident occurred on Thursday, damaging three huge metallic parts of the ground and destroying part of the stadium's structure.

It was initially stated that three people had died in the accident, but Corinthians late confirmed that there had been two fatalities, named as Fabio Luiz Pereira and Ronaldo Oliveira dos Santos.

Goal Brazil spoke to stadium worker, who did not want to be identified, expressed concern that further incidents could take place because on Thursday's crane collapse and was mortified by the death of his colleagues.

"I was a little far from the place of the accident, but what I know is that that would've been the last piece to be installed in the stadium structure," he told reporter Fernando Ahuvia.

"We were lucky that several workers weren't there at the moment, because it happened during lunch break.

"The structure fell and initiated a cascade effect. We felt a strong tremor and that's worrisome. It could've affected another structures.

"I'm really sad. Some of the Corinthians' fans are also here, around the stadium, and they are crying with what happen. I'm a Corinthians fan and I know how passionate we are, but the most important thing is the lives of the people."

The Sao Paulo fire department are currently looking for survivors and wounded in the Itaquerao, with work suspended and Odebrect, the company in charge of construction.

The stadium was intended to host the opening game of next summer's World Cup, though Thursday's accident could cast its completion in time for the tournament into doubt.
This is the third fatal incident in the building of World Cup 2014 stadia - the first at the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in June 2012 and the second in March this year at the Arena Amazonia, which both involved a worker falling from a height.

Pirlo should move to Premier League, says Tardelli

Pirlo should move to Premier League, says Tardelli
The Juventus midfielder's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season - with no talks expected until February - and the 59-year-old has backed him to move to England
Former Juventus midfielder Marco Tardelli has backed Andrea Pirlo to impress in the Premier League as speculation over his future continues.

The 34-year-old is currently in the third and final year of his contract with the Bianconeriwith the club confirming that no talks will take place before the end of the January transfer window.

And Tardelli feels Pirlo should test himself against the more physical nature of English football before he reaches the end of his playing career.

"Andrea is special and always decisive," Tardelli told Tuttosport. "It is not only with his free kicks he is good, if he plays well the whole team improves.

"It’s a complex and personal decision. That said, I would try Andrea in English football … Pirlo is quite famous in those parts."

When asked who would get his vote for the upcoming Fifa Ballon d'Or, Tardelli added: "Pirlo. But I think that Cristiano Ronaldo will win it."

Juventus face Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday as they search for their first victory in the competition this season following three draws and one defeat.

The Italian outfit can still reach the knockout stages with positive results in their final two games, and Tardelli has backed Fernando Llorente to step up after struggling for games during the early stages of his Juventus career.

He added: "My money is on Llorente as the decisive man. To be honest, at the beginning of the season I was among the sceptics.

"I didn’t have doubts about the player himself, but his adaptability to Conte’s game. But he's scoring and playing very well.

"He has the right characteristics to hurt the Danes. And above all, he seems to be in great shape."

One of Juventus' standout players this season has been Paul Pogba, with five goals from midfield already this season.

However, the youngster is yet to score in the Champions League - with Carlos Tevez without a goal in Europe in four years - but Tardelli is confident both can end their barren runs.

When queried on Pogba's record, Tardelli said: "It’s a minor detail, we’re talking about an important midfielder. He is playing fantastically, I hope he can score against Copenhagen.

"And the same goes for Tevez: the fact that he has not scored in Europe is a coincidence, I think.

Guardiola: "The mole will never play for me again

All is not as rosy as it seems at Bayern, despite the comprehensive victory in Dortmund. Pep Guardiola is livid after seeing his line-ups and tactics leaked to 'Bild'.
The tabloid claims that Pep has read the riot act to his players. "I don't care who the mole is, I want him out. Heads are going to roll. He'll never play for me again", the Catalan coach is quoted as saying.
Events have come to a head after 'Bild' published details of Guardiola's plan to beat Dortmund, which was based on long passes and switching play quickly. "If you want, I'll invite you to my team talks, so then you won't have to contact my players", Pep is even supposed to have told a German journalist.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has also spoken out: "We won't be pulling any NSA business to find the mole, but I'd advise him to stop or there will be trouble".

Cristiano Ronaldo has again won the Di Stéfano Trophy for the best Spanish league player, awarded by MARCA for the 2012-13 season. The Portuguese player also won the trophy last year ahead of Leo Messi, winner of the previous three. CR7, with 32 points, surpassed the 'Azulgrana' by 6 (26).
Andrés Iniesta came third with 11 points, the top 3 remaining as it was last year. Falcao (three points), Valdés, Di María (two) and Diego Costa (one) completed the line-up.
All players in the elite division are eligible for the award. The voting period begins with the Spanish Super Cup and closes with the last national team match and all the competitive competitions of the season are included.
The finalists are those most voted for by MARCA readers who are then ranked by the judging panel. In the event of a tie, the final decision rests with Alfredo Di Stéfano, president of the judging panel.
The award was created in the 2007-08 season and the first trophy went to Raúl González, who collected it from Di Stéfano, from whom the award gets its name, on the pitch at the Bernabéu prior to a Real Madrid-Numancia game. Leo Messi received the trophy the following three years, utterly dominant with three straight La Liga titles, while Ronaldo has been honoured for the last two campaigns.

Super Cinema: New kid on the entertainment block

LAHORE:
Lahore’s once pristine cinemas are rotting away and falling apart. This tragedy is well known, yet few have taken any initiative on this front. Last spring, the team behind Super Cinema decided to try something that others had yet to do — revamp a classically built cinema so that it could cater to a wider range of cinema-goers. Following the completion of the project, Shabistan Theatre became the first old cinema on Lahore’s famous Abbot Road to be fully refurbished. While the façade has been restored to its former glory, the interior now boasts state-of-the-art technology and a greater audience capacity. With the screening of Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, the old Shabistan theatre was now officially Super Cinema.
“We took over the operations of Shabistan and revamped it with a state-of-the-art digital system, which includes 3D; almost close to IMAX. It has one of the best projectors in the world, along with a huge screen about 45 feet,” says Imran Idris Mufti, the director of Super Cinema and Summit Entertainment Pakistan.
The new Shabistan Super Cinema has been put together exceptionally well, and routinely fills its auditorium. It is an initiative that has also bridged the divide between old and new cinema. The cinema halls at Shabistan have a rich history, and the theatre itself stands lined-up against five other old cinemas, such as Metropole. All kinds of Pakistani films used to be shown at these once illustrious cinemas on Abbot Road, until the downturn of local films occurred.
“The cinema was in the heart of the city. It has culture and legacy. Abbot Road and McLeod road are famous for films but families had stopped coming [here]. Now our halls are filled with families who never used to visit this part of town,” says Mufti.
Mufti, who launched Super Cinema’s first screen at the Royal Palm Golf & Country Club, has always maintained high-definition cinematic experiences and says that they are here to stay. He has systematically been acting on his long-term plan, which hopes to push traditional pioneers of multiplex and cinema distribution in Lahore. The result has been a dramatic shift in Lahore for both cinema-goers and Pakistan’s local film distributors. Dominated by only one or two major players over the last few years, the growth in multiplexes has been shaken up by the introduction of Summit Entertainment’s Super Cinema. In a span of two years, Super Cinema has added 15 new cinema screens to the city and plans to continue expanding.
These plans were complemented with another adventure on Mufti’s part, to develop the first cinema inside a mall on MM Alam Road. This multiplex screen, which has already started to accommodate private screenings, is the first of its kind in Lahore. Basing this decision on the American concept of making cinema part of the shopping experience, Mufti says that it will give easy access to people in Gulberg who are looking to catch a movie while out shopping.
“It gives you multiple facilities under one roof, you can go shop, have a good time, and have food. The view is amazing, we have three screens there, and a gold cinema with VIP services,” says Mufti.
Now, with an infrastructure of a growing number of multiplex screens firmly in place, the next frontier is an expansion of the film distribution options in Lahore. Summit Entertainment has already started to import foreign films, such as Rush and Once upon a time in Mumbai Dobaara, and are quietly getting involved with local movies as well.
“We are picking up Pakistani movies. This wave that has sort of taken place, where there is improved Pakistani content, we want to be a part of that as well,” says Mufti.
“I think things have changed for the better, people are starting to come back to cinemas but when you talk about Pakistan and numbers, I feel even a hundred screens for Lahore would not be enough. The potential is a lot and growth and competition will be a good thing.
